To get a db2 XA datasource, or any db2 datasource for that matter, defined in JBoss 7.2, start with getting the driver.
Free download page for Project BMF's db2jccjavax.jar.The BMF is a Software Framework developed in Java language for the creation of web applications on the server platform also Open source, in clinical, administrative and management for a healthca.

- Db2jcclicensecisuz jar free download file DB2, MySQL, SQL Server, Sybase, you need to point SQL Developer to the jar file. And the license file (db2jcclicensecisuz.jar). Z/OS DB2 DBVisualizer (and other java) support. Download the db2jcclicensecisuz.jar file and put in C: Download the charsets.jar file and put it in%JAVA.
Steps:
- Download the driver pack from IBM. You will need an IBM ID, which you can register for in here.
- Unzip the package. You will get
- db2jcc.jar: JDBC 3.0 compliant driver for JDK 1.4.2+. Might need native .dll in addition to work
- db2jcc4.jar: JDBC 4.0 compliant driver for JDK 1.6+. Pure java driver, no extra .dlls needed, thus preferred. Use that if you can.
- sqlj.zip: not needed at this point
- Create folder $JBOSS/modules/com/ibm/db2/main and place said db2jcc4.jar there
- Include also licence files db2jcc_license_cisuz.jar, db2jcc_license_cu.jar in the folder. You should have got them from elsewhere.
- create module.xml in tehe folder with contents as below
- Create datasource configurations in standalone.xml (or in your own config):
Schema and FP-schemas are optional.
Gotchas:
- if you get “unknown error” from admin ui, you might get a bit better exception testing through CLI with /subsystem=datasources/xa-data-source=db2XADSPool:test-connection-in-pool. For the older driver, I got silent fails without any real error messages, just “unknown error”.
- pool name and jdbc name of datasource need to be different, otherwise you will get an error about duplicate service definition
- if you get java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no db2jcct2 in java.library.path an error occurred ERRORCODE=-4472, it is trying to look for native libraries, so not using JDBC 4.0
- Datasource configuration examples might be hard to find, but there are some in teiid
Update: I used to have incorrect value for is-same-rm-override in this post. Changed to correct value “false”. Incorrect value will cause XAER_NOTA.
Also, the EAP manual contains an example of such datasource.
When trying to connect to some DB2 versions from the AE, you might encounter an error like the following:

The specific file named (which may vary depending on the version) needs to be obtained from the customer's DB admin. (It can typically be found in C:Program FilesIBMSQLLIBjava.) It should be placed on the appliance in the following location (which is where the existing JDBC drivers are):
/home/mdw/appserver/jboss-4.0.5.GA/server/default/deploy/webalo.ear/lib[R21]
- or -
/home/mdw/appserver/jboss-6.0.0.Final/server/jbossweb-standalone/deploy/webalo.ear/lib[R22]
You should probably set the permissions and ownership/group to the same as the other .jar files in this folder (755, mdw/mdw). Next, the application.xml file in:
/home/mdw/appserver/jboss-4.0.5.GA/server/default/deploy/webalo.ear/META-INF[R21]
- or - Lana del rey 2010.
/home/mdw/appserver/jboss-6.0.0.Final/server/jbossweb-standalone/deploy/webalo.ear/META-INF[R22]

needs to be modified to add a reference to the file. You can copy and modify an existing entry, to look like the following (for the specific file above):
Finally, the appliance can be rebooted, or you can simply restart the MDW service with the following command:
You should then be able to get a successful test connection to the DB2 server. Make sure the port specified is actually the one they use -- our default is not always correct.

Presumably, installing a JDBC driver for some database that is not supported by default (e.g. MySQL) would involve similar steps, but I haven't been through that yet.
